Our Band
Josh
My journey into music began at the age of 15, when I first picked up a guitar and started teaching myself to play. What started as an outlet for my thoughts and feelings quickly grew into a passion, and by my early twenties music had become an even bigger part of my life.
In 2018, I launched my own band, Familiar Enemies, bringing together my influences and songwriting to create something that felt authentic, personal, and honest. The project marked the start of performing, writing, and developing my sound with a group of like-minded musicians.
After moving to the UK to live with my partner, I made the decision to relaunch Familiar Enemies here, continuing the journey with new opportunities, new collaborators, and the same passion for creating and performing music.

My love of music started at a young age but it wasn’t until I was 13/14 that I picked up the guitar with any real intention. Inspired by a school friend and the music I was discovering in the shape of Sum 41, Linkin Park, Green Day, etc. after having some lessons my playing style developed by my time playing in church as well as the people I surrounded myself with. I eventually attended music college to study sound production. Despite not there to study guitar I still took the opportunity to continue to develop my playing style. After college I was part of several unsuccessful bands until I joined Lucille (now Iodynes) where I enjoyed some success. After taking a small hiatus from music to get married I joined Familiar Enemies and the rest as they say is history.

I started playing music at 14, just before turning 15, after watching a Nirvana documentary that made me want to play drums. Since I couldn’t get a drum kit, I picked up a guitar instead and began teaching myself using tabs and YouTube.
Throughout 2021 I spent hours every day practicing riffs and building my skills, inspired by bands like Nirvana, Deftones, AC/DC, Metallica, and Korn. I spent a lot of time jamming in garages with other teenagers, and getting real feedback from playing with others.
My first serious band project was Familiar Enemies, where I play bass. Being in the band has given me my first real experience in the live music scene and helped me learn a lot from the other musicians around me.

Started playing drums at about 10 years old. Sneaking into my older brother’s room and playing his kit when he was out!!! From this moment I have never stopped tapping away on things, much to the annoyance of everyone around me!!! At about 12 I officially got my own drums, well my brother’s drums were now mine. He had stopped playing. Through my younger years football was priority over music. Playing matches/ training 3 times a week meant there was no time to be in a band. I did have time to get proper drum lessons though and was playing my drums along to cd’s in my bedroom. Ranging from ceilidh music to metal and everything in between. When the football stopped, the music took over and I now had time to play in bands!!! I have been lucky enough to play some amazing venues over the years. Iron Works with Distance Between Us and more recently playing Speyside Whisky Festival with The Dandy Ceilidh Band to people from all over the world. I am so excited for the next part of the journey with Familiar Enemies and can’t wait to see what the future holds.
